My Dream Job
I am a new student of Petra Christian University and Civil Engineering is my choice. So, approximately in 4 years, I will be graduated and I am going to be a civil engineer. I never thought of being a civil engineer before. At first, I wanted to be an architect. My obsession was lasting for a long time, until finally I had to make a decision. For the first time, I reconsidered my future plan. It was difficult for me to decide, what kind of job do I really want. My father, who has been my source of inspiration, gave me a lot of advices and helped me to analyse my decision. And—it was a little bit weird to me—my father asked me to choose civil engineering. On the other hand, I think civil engineering is also interesting. I heard that it mostly deals with physical and mathematical problems, and I am fond of it! Basically, I have some reasons to choose civil engineering. Firstly, I love to see beautiful buildings in countries all over the world. Secondly, I want to construct the strongest building, and I also want to fulfill my dream of being a successful contractor.The first reason why I want to be a civil engineer is my passion of seeing beautiful building in countries all over the world. In my opinion, each country has its own style and uniqueness. It is really showed in the way they design buildings. The first idea was the same: how to build a place for human to live and do all of their activities, whereas at the same time, giving a protection to them, especially houses—places for human to spend most of t heir time a day with their families. A simple purpose, apparently, but in fact, it is really not an easy job to accomplish. More than just protecting human from bad weather or other kind of environmental changing, now building designers pay a lot of attention not only to the functions, but also to the appearance. Being a civil engineer, I’m not capable to design the building beautifully since it’s an architect’s job. Yet, much deeper than that, I will work in the crucial part, it’s designing the building’s construction. The strength of the construction plays a very important role in a building. As a civil engineer to be, I believe that I’m going to do it well.
By constructing a strong building, I hoper there will be no incident of collapse bridge or building anymore. I often watch news on TV reporting this kind of incident. A collapsed bridge killing many people and causing many loss and damage, since it happened in a busy time when many people and vehicles were passing it. Many factors caused this, but in my opinion, man has the biggest responsibility for this case. The bridge might be old and no longer could bear the heavy loads on it. Therefore, the engineer should have observed and predicted it thoroughly before, so did the other buildings. Hosepipes, offices, and skyscrapers should be designed to anticipate the earthquake that can happen anytime, especially in our country, Indonesia. Besides, there must be many other criteria and roles in designing buildings. That is why I’m interested in studying civil engineering. It is all about human life.
To be a successful contractor is many people’s dream, but not everyone can achieve it. For me being success doesn’t only mean I have to be ‘wealthy’, but as the highest achievement, I want to make a masterpiece. Therefore I’ll be widely recognized all over the world. Technological development will never stop, on the other hand the world is always changing and developing. I believe many inventions and ideas in the world of civil engineering will create a better building. For example, I’m going to be able to construct a building without cement. Who knows that in the future we will no longer need cement for making concrete. Human have become more civilized and we will never know how advanced they will be in the future.
In conclusion, I believe that my reason of choosing civil engineering as my major study is my interest in learning about buildings and constructions. It is true that at first, civil engineering was not my choice. But so far, I enjoy it and I began to love it. I’m sure that I’m going to be succeeded in the future. Now, I am still student. All I have to do is just studying hard and never think of giving up. Finally, I hope that I can make my parents proud of me.

My Dream Job
I have dreamt a lot to be able to be like anyone. To have all of their skills is one of my dreams. I guess, I rarely thought about what will I be in the future. I usually thought of I can do what others can do, it would be easier cause I can do more with a lot of other skills to support what I was doing then. However, as time passed by, I began to realize that there are other things than skills that I should have, such as experience, strong will, friends and many other. Skillful is not enough, that’s what I realized back then. Since I enter Interior Design Major, my choice is to be an interior designer.I have ever heard that it is possible to gain a lot of income by working as a designer for real estate or by establishing a company that work to design public house’s interior. Of course, I will have to work in other people’s company at first to make my name known by the consumers. But I guess it’s okay, I hear that it’s salary is still higher than normal officers. It’s just a small step as first.
The other reason why I choose to be a designer comes from it’s work. It’s work somehow is like creating something new from the old one. The excitement of creating something, doesn’t matter it it’s a new invention or even just innovating something new from something old excites me. Most probably that’s the reason I would try to do my best in my study to become a success designer. I guess, most people can understand it, when they have created something.
There are many reasons to be a designer, or many advantages of being a designer. One of the advantages is a designer usually have a lot of connections. Connections to a new inspirations, new consumers, new lifestyles, etc. I think I should have it too. It’s nit because I’m a loner here nor because I want to do it just for business. I guess I should do it with all my heart, so I can further walk to be a success designer in personal and in the society. Connections is one of the keys to live well.
Shortly, I guess the reasons why I choose to be an interior designer are it’s income, it’s excitement and it’s wide connection. Income, as you see, money is needed in this world, although money is not everything. Excitement, one of the most crucial parts to work, as long as I can work happily, I can enjoy being anything; designer, banker, singer, teacher, actor and many others. Wide connection also plays a crucial role in people’s life, ‘together’ can be stronger than ‘alone’, which happens almost in every cases in the real world. Anyway, I guess I must try my best to be a success interior designer from now on.
